LARGE SUNSET PAINTING by James Brunt ‘Timeless Tides’

About the Painting

‘Timeless Tides’ is a large sunset painting by James Brunt. Created with the image of a warm, hopeful setting sun on a mild Spring evening, as the tides recede. James achieved a bright, bold palette of colours and saturation by painting layers of high-density colours, overlapping in very thin layers of oil paint. He used of a muted scaled palette on the beginning stages of this painting. Then a high-chromatic palette during the later stages, which highlights the bright bold colours. The painting consists primarily of shades of cobalt blue, cerulean blue, warm yellows, and whites. But he has also incorporated oranges, pinks, mid-tone purples, dark browns and magenta tones. The sides of the canvas have been left white.  It comes varnished and ready to hang.

This is a large sunset painting at 100 x 100 cm (39.5″ x 39.5″). The surface is a deep edge stretched canvas, which will be signed on the front and also signed/dated on the back. It will include a signed & dated self-made Certificate of Authenticity.

QUESTIONS TO THE ARTIST ABOUT THE ARTWORK

What inspired the creation of ‘Timeless Tides,’? Is it a particular place?

Timeless Tides is not necessarily a particular place, but instead, the composition was inspired by feelings of hope, optimism and self-reflection. The foundation of my work is rooted deeply in my emotions, both positive and negative. I wanted to create something that would emulate the feeling of peacefulness and oneness. But also feelings of hope and encouragement. These thoughts tend to drift through my mind whenever I walk along the shoreline.

How did you choose the colours for this painting?

I chose a warm, saturated colour palette. Using deep pinks, bright yellows and calming blues to elicit a sense of tranquillity and hopefulness. I wanted to create an ethereal feel within the reflections of the shoreline. A  composition and colour palette that would arouse positive emotions within the viewer.

How does the size of a painting influence your creative process?

Generally, the size of a painting can determine the sense of scale and grandeur you can create within a landscape. A blank canvas is the basis of my compositions where I create a space constructed of my thoughts and feelings. A larger canvas enables me a sense of freedom; a space where I can paint with a loose hand and with less constriction. Where I can focus all of my energy into how I want to present my emotion.

What emotions do you want to evoke in the viewer?

I went into the painting to elicit feelings of calmness, hopefulness, positivity and optimism. But there are also intentional undertones of a deep spiritual sense. I chose a shoreline composition, as the tides recede and the sun begins to sink below the horizon. Where the last of the fading sunlight dancing through the atmosphere, creating a rainbow of beautiful, warm colours which reflect in the receding waters. These themes were intentionally chosen to promote feelings of self-awareness and self-actualization within the viewer.
