Questions to the Artist about the artwork

What inspired you to paint ‘The Long Path’ and choose the specific colour palette of bright pink and purple foliage?

I like painting trees and the interaction the branches create.  I am particularly fond of pinks and purples.

Can you share the significance of the straight and fading path in the artwork? What does it represent to you?

The significance of the path is that it creates distance and mystery into a painting.

How did you approach capturing the sense of tranquillity and romance in this piece? Did you have any specific techniques or intentions in mind?

No, I had no specific techniques or intentions in mind.

What was the most challenging aspect of creating this artwork, and how did you overcome it?

The challenge with this painting was to gradually build up the layers of colours and tones, working from dark to lightest shades.

Could you tell us a bit about your artistic process and the materials you used to create ‘The Long Path’?

Firstly, I drew the tree trunks and the path using oil paint and a fine brush and then painted the sky area and blocked in sections of the picture.  When this was dry (one to two days) I drew in most of the tree branches.  I then started adding the darkest foliage;  meanwhile I also worked on the tree trunks and branches.  The painting has to be left to dry for at least 2 days in between painting.
