Questions to the artist about the artwork

What inspired you to create “The Lavender Moon” and what emotions were you trying to convey through the painting?

The lavender moon is about life , before and after and the connection between the two. The white tree is a symbol of the life spirit and our own personal growth outwards and into the world hoping that each one of us adds to the collective higher consciousness.

Can you describe the process of creating the highly detailed silver tree? What techniques did you use to achieve such intricacy?

The tree was painted in a particular way in pure white , then glazed over with a purple / blue . Once this dried more white detailing was added and the process was repeated until I was happy with the result. I find that this technique helps to create a luminous effect that gives the tree an other worldly feel.

The choice of colours in “The Lavender Moon” is striking. How did you decide on the vibrant deep lavender-blue palette, and what significance does it hold in relation to the overall mood of the artwork?

The colouring of the painting is loosely referenced on the spiritual nature  purple , which in my limited knowledge is a very powerful colour. I wanted the background to be dark but not in any way foreboding to show off the moon and tree .

The silver moon in the painting adds an element of mystery and enchantment. Can you share your thoughts on the symbolism behind the moon and its role in the composition?

The moon for me has always had those elements of mystery and enchantment, also it has a lot of feminine energy which fits in perfectly with the tree and mood of the piece. In a lot of my paintings the moon is used as a symbol of the passage of time so a full moon is seen as a blessing hence the link with the tree , hoping to create a link between time and memory, this has always been a constant theme in all of my work .
