Shaun Burgess

Oil painting artists all have one thing in common. They must be patient as working with oil as a medium requires careful attention to layering and avoiding the potential for artwork to become muddy. Shaun Burgess is a self taught artist that has mastered the art of patience throughout his career. His love for art comes from deep within his soul and viewers can easily feel the very essence of every piece.

The realism style oil paintings produced by Shaun Burgess emanate confidence in the subject with the ability to dream a little as well. Shaun enjoys painting both human and animal subjects and draws on inspiration from the natural elements around him. His pieces are a masterful interpretation of the inner soul of the subject and a true mastering of the complexity of oil as a medium.

“Creating art is integral to my mental well being. Each piece takes me on a journey of emotions, from sadness to joy, frustration to serenity and despair to pride. Art should never be underestimated”

Jennifer Taylor

Many artists begin their art career later in life. This is the case of Jennifer Taylor. A passion for art was always with her throughout her childhood and well into her adult life. However, it was on the backburner until in 2008, this gifted artist chose to abandon her everyday career and pursue the passion that had been stirring in her soul her entire life.

In each piece Jennifer Taylor paints, we see how important savouring every moment is to her. Her paintings take what is real and bring it into the mind of what could be. The realism in each painting is astounding and are often inspired by real locations, but Jennifer continues to imagine and dream up mystical places each time her paintbrush rests on the canvas.

“I think in the modern world it is very easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of day to day life and I love to think my paintings are little places to escape to, at least for a little while”

Catherine Kennedy

Artists paint what they love and what inspires them. For Catherine Kennedy, inspiration comes directly from the sea. She received her formal art education from the University of Plymouth and graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2008. As part of the fine art degree, she also studied film and video. This emphasis on movement has provided her with a unique perspective on the non-conformity of waves and seascapes.

Catherine Kennedy uses a variety of colours, favouring indigo, turquoise, and emerald hues to represent the ever changing light and colours of the sea. She not only paints her oil pieces in an impressionistic style, but also includes a very abstract viewpoint as well. Catherine includes a variety of movement to her paintings that provides a very calming, yet inspiring view.

“Inspired by the power of the ocean, I love to bring that energy inside through my wave and seascape oil paintings and strive to make my collectors feel they could dive into the sea or be walking along a wide open sandy beach.”

Mark Duffin

Not all artists begin their careers by producing their own pieces. Artists such as Mark Duffin, often begin their careers on the commercial end of the artist realm. Mark Duffin began working as an illustrator for corporations throughout the UK. Although the art was a way to express some ideas, it was not as fulfilling as he would have liked. Mark Duffin now works in both oils and acrylics to produce some of the most awe inspiring landscapes and impressionistic pieces.

Expressions of colour and light can be found in Mark Duffin’s paintings as he explores various hues of the same colour pallet. Duffin includes both realistic perspective as well as dream worlds in his pieces. Artists regularly paint with their mind’s eye and indulge in various fantasy inspired pieces. Mark Duffin does this on an epic scale with a unique eye for every detail.

What I love about being an artist is to be in my own world , painting any other ones I like.”

Nikki Wheeler

Although art can be taught, many artists are natural talents. Nikki Wheeler is an excellent example of what natural talent is all about. Her pieces follow the classic style of many classically trained landscape artists, but also manage to provide a truly unique quality all her own. Nikki’s process for paintings often involves travel to various regions. She brings along her sketchbook and works from those drawings when she gets back into her studio.

Nikki Wheeler paints pieces in layers allowing the art to come together organically. This allows her to take her time and make each painting all her own. What inspires Nikki Wheeler the most is along the Devon coast. Her art utilizes the colours to portray emotions. Her art does not follow the standard realistic view, but provides the viewer with a window to their own dream world. Nikki Wheeler uses her art to inspire and become a truly personal experience for all who view it.

“Light, nature, colour, the sea, the land, a fleeting moment, luscious tubes of paint all inspire me to paint!”
