Questions to the Artist About the Artwork

What inspired you to create this particular artwork, “Owl in the Thick of the Forest”

I have associated owls and forests since childhood when my mother read children’s books to me about wise owls from the forest. Therefore, I always add flowers, trees, forests, birds and animals to my work.

Can you explain your choice of colours and how they contribute to the overall mood and symbolism of the painting?

In fact, I didn’t think about it. I start a new series of paintings every time with a new primary colour, and other colours appear intuitively on the canvas. It may sound trite, but colours should please the viewer and interest.

How does this artwork relate to your broader series of owl paintings? Are there any recurring themes or ideas you explore in this series?

I love nature. Nature tells us stories, and we choose to listen or pass by. When people ask me what I explore in my paintings, I always answer – myself. This is my view of the world around me.

Could you share some insights into your artistic process when creating this painting? What techniques or approaches did you use to achieve the blending of realism and abstraction in the composition?

I studied the technique of impressionism, but over time I wanted to experiment more in order to combine impressionism and abstraction in one picture. In a series of paintings with owls, I used the liquid acrylic technique, as well as various artists’ tools and even just improvised material that any person has at home. When I’m in the experimental process, the word ”not possible” can’t exist for me. I try all the tools.
