Nature is all around us and a never-ending source of inspiration for artists. There are many styles and subjects that fall under this category, from seascapes and landscapes to skyscapes and floral art. Whether they depict flowers or landscape views in their chosen medium, nature offers artists many facets to observe and interpret through their own sensibility.

A seascape can show a calming sea or a storm; a landscape can show nature in different seasons; a skyscape can be spectacular, capturing the movement of the clouds and the colours of the sunset. Floral art is vast and fascinating and probably every artist has painted flowers at some point in their career.

Nature inspired the oldest form of art in cave paintings as well as the patterns and motifs found in folk art throughout the decades. Trees, leaves and flowers are the most popular and easily recognisable elements in the arts of all ages and styles.

“I do like to spend time within the peacefulness of nature, in a quiet garden full of flowers, rolling hillsides or just a peaceful meadow or lake – watching nature and tuning into the beauty of it all” says CK Wood and her statement summarises the connection between artist and nature; between beauty in its natural form and the creators of beauty.
