Water Vole by Sujata Aten
Water Vole by Sujata Aten

My paintings are based on collected experiences and memories of being born and brought up in India, my travelling and having lived in England since 2000. I am passionate about colours and I am inspired by landscapes, nature and wildlife” – this is how Sujata Aten starts her artist statement and when we look at her gallery, we see colour, mood and abstraction.

Water Vole is an abstract landscape created in mixed media on canvas and the title suggests the presence of an animal. The predominant colours are blue and green and there is also a lot of texture in the sky suggesting the white clouds against the blue sky.

“For my abstract landscape paintings, I work from my memory trying to recreate the feelings and the mood that the depicted landscape signifies to me. I do not always produce an accurate representation but aim to evoke a sense of personal experience, to create an image which brings together different aspects of the landscape.

And this is exactly what Sujata Aten achieved in her artwork: a sense of mood and a personal interpretation of the natural surroundings that speaks to the viewer in a personal way.  Enjoy!
