Individually cut out and painted butterflies, some with gold leaf, on painted background, high gloss lacquer finish. The artwork is of a fluid composition of red, shimmery gold, orange, maroon and white with a splash of white across the canvas.

An ideal piece of original art for anywhere in your home or office. It will bring warmth, energy and light into your living room or above the fireplace, adding personal feel to your interiors.  A Certificate of Authenticity will be provided.

About my art: The world we live in is made of colour. Colour is what creates beauty, energy. It evokes emotion, it involves feelings. I have always been fascinated with colour and shape. Combining two together, you have unlimited possibilities of creating art. But creating art, or painting in my case, goes deeper than putting two of them together. It starts with emotion or feeling and then it “spills out” on canvas. Some of my paintings are impulse paintings where inner emotion takes over and guides my paint brush – whereas others are journeys that surprise even myself. Through my paintings I try to express the way I see the world and connect with the viewer on an emotional level, hoping to capture the moment on canvas.

QUESTIONS TO THE ARTIST

Firstly what inspired you to create “Butterfly Symphony II”?

I have always been fascinated with butterflies and their beauty and their free spirit and vulnerability at the same time. The colours and shapes are unlimited and the possibilities of art are unlimited and exciting.

How does the use of colour contribute to the emotional resonance of the artwork?

I use rich deep colours with added gloss varnish or high gloss resin in some of my Butterfly series. This evokes deep emotions and a sense of mysticism leaving a viewer wanting more.

Can you share a bit about the artistic process?

Usually I have a pretty good idea of my colour palette and composition – although I do change or add a few butterflies here and there. I start with creating the background for the artwork which is fine in several layers, leaving each layer to dry. Then I place cut out butterflies on the dry and painted canvas and step back to see what it would look like from a distance. I might change some of them or their placement. I have a variety of individually painted cut out butterflies ready prepared beforehand, some of them with silver or gold leaf. Then when I am finally happy with the overall look and feel of the artwork, I glue them into the canvas. Once dry, I gloss varnish or packer resin to give extra depth and protection.

How did you first become interested in creating art?

I discovered that I can draw when I was in school: I used to draw anything or anyone with photographic details. In those days, I could not afford a lot of artist paper, so I even drew on cardboard from boxes that I used to gather from local shops. I could spend hours sitting there and drawing with the pencil. Later on in my career I started using acrylic paints. I love Winsor & Newton Artist acrylic series which are very rich in pigment and allow me to experiment with different techniques.

Lastly, are there any particular artists or art movements that have influenced your style?

I have always loved Pollock art as the freedom and movement in his paintings are very attractive. The depth of his art is beyond the ordinary. I love Mark Rothko art as well, although it is so different from Pollock. The clean style and multi layering technique shows a lot of depth in his work. Andy Warhol for his creativity and bravery to break out from traditional perception of art. Jean-Michel Basquiat is another major influence in my art, especially in my early days.
