The use of bold, gestural brushstrokes adds depth and texture to the artwork, and the layering of colours creates a sense of movement and fluidity. The two small seagulls in the distance add a sense of scale and perspective to the piece, as well as a touch of life and movement.

The title of the artwork,  Devotion 1, hints at the emotional intensity and dedication that is reflected in the painting’s composition. The brushstrokes seem to be driven by a powerful force, conveying a deep sense of emotion and passion.

Overall,  ‘Devotion 1’ is a stunning example of sea and skyscape artwork, with the addition of the two  birds adding a touch of life and movement to the serene and tranquil scene. The use of colour, brushstrokes, and composition creates a powerful and emotionally charged piece that is sure to captivate and inspire anyone who views it.

What inspired you to create this artwork, and what was your creative process like?

I needed to find some peace in my life and I often find it when I’m painting. Creating this piece simply happened. I let the paint flow from the brushes. I found a sense of calm and love for painting again.

What message or feeling do you hope viewers will take away from this piece, and how do you think the use of colour and brushstrokes helps to convey that message?

I hope people will connect with the colours in the sky, and what they convey. The brush strokes are gentle and blended, signifying calm. So, putting the powerful colours of crimson and orange, together with the gentle yet purposeful brushstrokes, I hope to convey a sense of confidence or power in the viewer, a subtle inner calm, hope and positivity.

Can you describe the role that the two small seabirds play in the composition of the painting, and why you chose to include them in the scene?

The seabirds? My work is often a vast expanse of sea and sky because I love this view. It rejuvenates the soul. The seabirds signify something quite private so I’m sorry I can’t disclose!

How do you approach abstract expressionism as an art form, and what draws you to this style of painting?

Its simply the way the painting transpires. Honestly, I turn the music on, and see what happens. There is no rhyme or reason, or copying of anything. It is pure emotion on canvas.

What are some other themes or subject that you enjoy exploring in your artwork

I adore painting skies and sea foremost as they are so changeable. Mood is the main theme that runs throughout my work. I explore my own feelings through Art.  Art is my release, my therapy, my outlet for most emotions. I zone out and see what happens. That’s it.
