When was the last time you traveled and stayed in a hotel? If you are like most people, this happens at least a few times per year. Travelers choose particular hotels for a variety of reasons. The price, location, and overall amenities are essential to most people, but the atmosphere or vibe of the establishment is vital as well. Providing the right amenities to your guests should be the top of your priority list, but the artwork you place in rooms and throughout your hotel will help to establish the vibe as well. Consider these aspects when deciding on the right art for hotels.

Where Are You Located?

The location of your hotel means a lot to your customers. Beachside hotels are commonly inhabited by those who want to envelop themselves in the sea experience. Mountain region hotels tend to be more rugged and focused on outdoor enthusiasts and some hotels are in pass through locations where travelers simply want one night to rest their head. No matter where you are, your art should reflect the location.

Hotels close to the ocean, ideally, should invest in art that reflects seascapes to remind individuals where they are. Calming scenes where others are enjoying their beach surroundings is essential. However, do not devote too much to excitement in these areas. Remember your customer is there to rest, so loud and vibrant scenes are not ideal

The same notion should be used for more rugged hotel locations. Invest in art that reflects the outdoor environment. Indigenous tree scenes and camping style artwork is a great way to remind those staying with you where they are.

Pass through locations should think in terms of complete relaxation. Although the location your hotel is in may not be very influential, look at where travelers are headed. Are they going to the beach, the mountains, a popular vacation destination? Design your hotel artwork around where your traveler may be headed.

Consider Colour Combinations

Colour is a significant part of your hotel artwork choices. It is easy to purchase what we like and simply place it on the walls, but just because you like a particular colour combination does not mean it is adequate for your hotel wall décor. Colour is expressive. A good artist uses colour to portray the very idea of the piece. Even though we see each art piece differently as individuals, the theme shines through.

Choose colours that reflect the theme of your hotel and do not clash with other colours in the space. Although colour may seem like a small thing, it can be highly distracting to certain travelers making it impossible for them to rest. Offering soothing tones such as soft blues and greens tend to promote a restful night. Other colours such as yellows, pinks, and oranges can be used as well, but ensure the tones are muted and not overpowering to the space.

The Hotel Theme

Themes are common in many hotels and rooms can be designed to tell a distinct story. Artwork purchased for a theme room should align with that specific theme and not deviate from the story. Theme hotels can also often get away with more vibrant and bold colour combinations as the average visitor is not looking to merely rest, but have the experience of staying in that space. These hotels tend to fair best when they invest in modern art or pop art pieces.

Multiple Medium Considerations

As much as the overall theme and colour combination of your hotel artwork is, the medium used is just as vital. A hotel art buyer must consider various medium options and how the piece will be perceived by the customer. Although oil paintings can be a beautiful option for upscale hotels catering to primarily adults, due to the delicate nature of oils they are not ideal for hotels catering to children and young families. Acrylics are more durable options for standard, family friendly hotel models.

The overall look of the piece is important, but when considering any artwork for a hotel, entertain texture options as well. Much of the soul of an art piece is derived from the texture provided by a pallet knife or layering effect from utilizing various mediums. Just because a hotel is meant for resting does not mean it should not be a showcase for incredible, multi-medium art pieces.

Artwork for hotels comes in many forms. Some showcase standard prints commercially produced by various companies and that is why you may see duplicate pieces on your journey’s. However, hotel owners that truly want to invest in their customers desire more from their art pieces. Individual pieces of artwork fashioned by incredible UK artists not only show that you care about the arts, it also gives budding and even successful artists an ongoing gallery to showcase their works. Support the arts by investing in high quality art for hotels.
