‘Red Passion’ A contemporary Monochrome painting  by Tanja Stefanovich

‘Red Passion’ is a contemporary painting by Tanya Stefanovich.  The artwork is part of Tanya’s ‘Lady’s Series’ – which combines abstract brush strokes and a female form.

This piece is in a monochromatic palette of black and white, with a small splash of red. In the middle there is a striking silhouette of a ballerina as the central focus.

The artwork is characterised by bold black expressionistic brush strokes, which emphasise the elegant form of the dancer. Her silhouette stands out prominently against the contrasting black and white background. The artist’s brush strokes create the illusion of motion, conveying the grace and poise of ballet.

Tanya’s choice of a black and white palette enhances the visual impact of the artwork. However, there is also a flash of bright red in the ballerina’s hair and dress. In fact, this makes the black even more prominent.

This is an oil painting on linen at 49 x 64cm. Finally, Tanya has presented the painting in a simple black frame, which I’m sure you will agree, finishes the piece off perfectly.

QUESTIONS TO THE ARTIST ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Firstly, can you share the inspiration behind ‘Red Passion’ and your ‘Lady’s Series’ of paintings’

My inspiration lies behind the gracias of  flamenco dance.

How did you decide on this specific colour scheme?

All my Lady series are created in monochrome with some colour strokes. In Red passion, red stands for Spain.

3 Could you elaborate on your choice of this particular brushstroke style?

My brushstroke style is an attempt to put a motion in a moment on the canvas.

Why did you specifically opt for oil on linen for this piece? Is it your usual medium?

Oil is a live medium and I prefer it in my art.

Why did you decide on the name ‘Red passion’?

It reflects the energy of flamenco dance.
