Alexandre Barbera-Ivanoff showcases his masterful talent in the piece Iris. This artist has studied his craft since the age of 12 and is the grandchild of Serge Ivanoff. His love of art runs deep and his creative style generates some truly inspired pieces. Iris is a stunning depiction of femininity and ultimate fantasy. The piece features an intricate pencil drawing of an almost deity figure who appears to be in deep thought.

Iris places a new perspective on what our fantasy images must feel. They are often painted as a flat image with little emotion or depth to the character, but Alexandre showcases the vulnerable nature of the subject in iris. Another interesting aspect that adds to the allure of Iris is the extreme detail in both the face and hands. They are emphasized with an almost photorealistic quality drawing your eye to them. However, the background of the image merely suggests detail. At first glance, the background appears as a set of wings. It is only when you look deeper that trees emerge.

The depth quality of Iris is what sets it apart from other intricate drawings. The more you view this image, the more imaginative qualities emerge. For instance, the headpiece worn by the subject appears as hair, but looking deeper reveals feathers encapsulating her head. It begs you to wonder where the bird ends and the human begins.

The emotion and depth of Iris is reminiscent of Albrecht Durer, a famous 16th century artist noted for his invigorating detailed pieces. Iris holds the viewer’s gaze and draws the eye to various parts of the painting in an immaculate way. Alexandre Barbera-Ivanoff shows off his extreme talent for art in this Iris and that can be a difficult task for a pencil drawing to portray. Although we can speculate about the image further, let us hear what the artist himself has to say about Iris.
