Olivier Payeur

“I paint to produce an emotion”

Olivier Payeur is a talented contemporary artist based in France known for his still life paintings, which typically feature fruit and other food-related products such as olive oil bottles. His works are characterised by their realistic style, with block colours often used in the background to create a bold and contemporary feel.

According to Olivier, his inspiration comes from drawing the body, painting the skin, and working on colour. For him, the body is a subject that expresses emotions and feelings that can be conveyed through painting. He sees the body as a moving architecture, and drawing it is the starting point of his paintings.

Colour is also an important element in Olivier’s work. He believes that a coloured composition can produce an emotion independently of what it represents. After working extensively on representations of the skin in painting, Olivier gradually freed himself from the temptation of verisimilitude. For him, the essential aspect of painting is the double emotion produced by the subject and the colour, and the resulting tension. Olivier’s ultimate goal in painting is to produce that emotion.

Olivier’s paintings are highly regarded for their unique style, technical excellence, and emotional depth.
