Sea and Sunset Oil painting ‘Bright Ocean Sunset’ by Elena Sokolova

About the Artwork

‘Bright Ocean Sunset’ is a beautifully painted seascape, with crashing waves and a setting sun.  The waves can be almost heard crashing and the heat from the sun, which reflects off the water, can almost be felt.  Indeed a testament to the artist great skill as a painter.

This original oil painting on canvas beautifully captures a bright sunset over the ocean. The sky undergoes a seamless transition, it begins with the darkest blue at the top, then gradually transforms into a vibrant blend of orange and pink hues at the centre.  Floating in the orange sky are whisps of cumulus clouds, becoming almost lost in the vibrant backdrop.

The intensity of the sun, which is in the centre of the painting, takes centre stage.  It radiates a golden hue that cascades across the clouds and water, therefore creating a radiant light, which creates mesmerising reflections and highlights in the sea. The depiction of the sea is skill fully rendered with hues ranging from blue to turquoise, featuring small waves and white foam.

The artwork is in an impressionistic style, where she uses dynamic brush strokes and vivid colours.  Overall the painting set a serene yet lively atmosphere, characteristic of a coastal sunset.

About the Artist

My interest in art was developed when I was very young. I did a lot of graphic / decoration voluntarily at school and university. I started painting in oil after some years of living in Holland. There is probably something special in the air here.

With the exception of some lessons by professional artists, I am self-taught. My work is published in volume 33 of Studio Visit Magazine
