For Rod Bere, art is a true passion. That is evident in his stunning painting, Autumn Fire in the Water. This perspective impressionistic piece offers an epic image of vibrant autumn foliage. Autumn is a truly inspiring time of year. When trees are full of various hues of browns, reds, yellows, and oranges, magic seems to be everywhere and that is what we can see in Autumn Fire in the Water.

What makes this piece so special is not the mere presence of the trees, but their overall effect on the water below. The experience of this piece truly looks like fire raging directly on top of the water giving the painting a unique glow of captivating beauty. Although we know time passes and soon autumn will change to the cold hand of winter, we can take comfort in knowing that in this one image, we have a snapshot of autumn at its true best.

Rod Bere paints in a way that makes the viewer enjoy what they are experiencing. Autumn Fire in the Water is not just a painting but an experience of colour and illumination that brings feelings of happiness and calm to the soul. As you gaze upon Autumn Fire in the Water, you feel as though you are right in the middle of it all with a gentle breeze blowing as leaves attempt to hold tight to the trees.

Although Rod has always had a passion for art, life has taken him down many avenues and I think that is what makes his paintings so special. They are not just the perspective of an average individual, but one that has accomplished and continues to accomplish important things throughout his life. Rod has a true passion for nature and what it brings to the canvas. Autumn Fire in the Water is just one example of this impressive artist’s remarkable talent, but let’s hear what he has to say about this inspired piece.

What attracts you most about the autumn season?

Not just the colours but the scents and a feeling of calmness in the air, the rustle of leaves underfoot

Do you paint from an image or allow a piece to manifest organically?

I use images of sight and mind, recalling happy times when I moved from London to live and work in agriculture

Is this painting inspired by a real life place or part of your imagination?

Both

Your water flow in Autumn Fire in the Water is very impressive. What is the technique you chose to use for it?

I can’t point to a technique – water has a fascination for me I just paint as I feel

How long did this piece take to complete and when did you know it was finished?

Most of my paintings are by instinct and take just 2 to 3 hours. I then hang them in my lounge opposite where I sit, and from there decide whether finished

What time of day, would you say, Autumn Fire in the Water is painted?

Early morning with the sun still low in the sky

Why do you enjoy painting landscapes so much? What is it about this style of painting that attracts you most?

Born into the London area my early life was full of greys and even as a child I cultivated an area of the garden to grow colourful annuals, and later in life, just the memories of the fresh scent of rural air and the freedom of space.
