Spring blossom painting ‘Pink Cherry’ by Mila Moroko
Our artwork of the week this week is ‘Pink Cherry’ by artist Mila Moroko. The painting depicts the pink flowers and branches of the spring blossom of the cherry tree. It is a beautifully impasto painted in oil paints, in an impressionistic style. The pink flowers are set off perfectly against the beautiful pastel blue sky.
Mila has created the piece on a canvas at 60 x 50 x 1.8cm. Ready to hang on a box canvas with painted edges.
In Mila’s Words
This impressionistic artwork is full of joy, brightness and energy, like beautiful spring time around us.
The blooming cherry tree seems to give its tenderness to the world and I want to stop time from running so fast. Thick impasto layers create the flowers texture and bright blue of the sky is the best scene for this magic performance. The work has painted edges and is ready to hang.

QUESTIONS TO THE ARTIST
Firstly, I love the colours in this piece. Is the scene imaginary or real life/images?
There is a tree like this growing near my house. Every spring I spend hours admiring it and absorbing its colours and shades. I can draw it from my memory.
Is oil your preferred medium to use? and if so, why?
Oil is my favourite medium. I like its plasticity and fluidity and I can convey shades better with oil.
I see you have painted lots of different subjects. Do you have a particular favourite to paint and if so, why?
It is impossible for me to choose one style and direction in painting. I love to depict female images which give an endless space of possibilities for the artist. Also, nature is always a source of inspiration, with its colours, forms and philosophy. This is how different subjects appear on my canvases.
Lastly, which artists inspire you?
I can study Van Gogh’s works endlessly – they have everything that nature inspires me with. One of the masters from whom I can learn the artistic view of a person is Nicolai Fechin.
