Lake District painting ‘Across the Valley of Gold, Ullswater’ by Jennifer Taylor
This week’s artwork of the week is a stunning oil painting by Jennifer Taylor. This is a large landscape and it captures Ullswater in the Lake District so beautifully. I’m sure you will agree.
This is indeed a large landscape, at 100 x 70 cm on a box canvas at 4cm deep. Jennifer has added hanging fixtures to the back, so it is ready to hang. It comes signed and the front and of course, is varnished. In satin, to protect the artwork and so as not to have too much reflection, so no detail is lost.
Here are Jennifer’s words about her wonderful painting.
‘Set high atop the mountains, the beautiful light of the Lake District, the beautiful views of Ullswater surrounds us. Created from photos, coupled with imagination, I have added beautiful Heather fields to bring the piece to life. Golden, subtle earthy hues sing beautifully with subtle heather, pink colours, blues, greens and greys. Beautiful to enjoy all year round, capturing the natural colour and light of this beautiful landscape. Arrives ready to hang and enjoy. Edges left crisp white, ready to hang and enjoy’.
About the Artist
I started painting as a young child, dreaming up imaginary places and bringing them to life as paintings and drawings. In 2008 I abandoned my everyday job to follow a creative path full-time. I have been painting and creating daily ever since. Every painting is created from the heart, brimming with colour, light and imagination.
Art is captivating, and brings true joy to the soul – it should be savoured and treasured. Art is something that makes life magical and enjoyable. It is my lifelong passion to create artwork that enhances these feelings, and brings this magic into your life.

Questions to the Artist
Firstly, your artwork is stunning. As well as bringing the scene to life through imagination and photos. Have you visited the lakes for inspiration?
I have yes, on many occasions. I love hiking and have hiked many of the lakes and peaks over the years.
As well as Cumbria, you also paint Northumbria often. Does this have a place in your heart?
It does, yes. I am originally from Cheshire, but have lived in the Newcastle Upon Tyne area for 25 years. I regularly hike in this area, in particular as mentioned up to Northumberland. It is a beautiful part of the world, which I love to explore. In September I am hiking from Alnwick Castle all the way up the coast to Bamburgh Castle, so many pieces to follow from this trip.
How long would it take to create such large scale artwork like this?
A piece like this would typically take me around 2 weeks to complete. I work in light layers and glazes, so the oil paints dry quicker in these thinner layers.
Lastly, which artists, if any, have inspired you?
I love many other artists’ work, but in particular I love the work of Stewart Edmonson. I love how atmospheric his landscapes are.
