Decorate with art this Christmas

This year’s festive season is set to be a bumper one, after pandemic restrictions cast a shadow over the annual family get-together last year. With just a few weeks to go, now is the perfect time to start thinking about decorating your home for the Christmas period.

While you’ll undoubtedly be thinking about Christmas trees, decorations and perhaps a seasonal wreath, it’s well worth taking some time to find a couple of new art pieces to display in your home, too. A well-chosen picture can create a warm and welcoming ambience and serve as a talking point for your guests.

Hallway

The humble hallway is often one of the most neglected spaces in the home, serving a functional rather than decorative purpose for many. However, this is also likely one of the first spaces that your guests will see, meaning it’s a great candidate for a new piece of art. Having a striking print, canvas or painting in your hallway can instantly transform a forgotten space into a stylish nook that your guests will envy.

Choosing a bright, vibrant print can liven up a dull space. If your hallway is long and plain, an extra-large piece of art adds excitement and a sense of modern style.

Living Room

Much like the kitchen, the lounge is the heart of the home. It’s where you gather to watch TV and entertain guests, making the piece of art you select an important choice – after all, it’s something you and your Christmas guests will likely be seeing a lot of.

The exact style of artwork you choose will depend on your existing décor and colour palette. If your style is minimal, a statement abstract painting in monochrome can work well. More traditional interiors may wish to opt for nature-inspired artworks, or those depicting a favourite place.

Dining Room

If you’re lucky enough to have a formal dining room, investing in a new piece of artwork can provide a wonderful backdrop to your Christmas dinner this year. Abstract,  nature and still lifes all make excellent subjects for this space or, if you have more room to play with, a gallery wall makes for a wonderful focal point.

Guest Rooms

Choosing art for your guest bedrooms can be really fun. This space should be warm, welcoming and restful as you want your houseguests to feel relaxed and at home while staying with you.

Seascapes and landscapes can evoke fond memories while statement abstract prints can add real character.
