Colourful floral painting ‘Autumn Wildflowers’ by Anna Brigitta Kovacs

This week’s artwork of the week is a colourful floral painting by Anna Brigitta Kovacs. Anna used watercolours on paper to create this vibrant artwork. She hasn’t framed the painting, as we all have our own tastes for this, as we do with art.  Personally, I think it would look amazing with a simple black frame. Which I’m sure would make the colours stand out even more.

Here are Anna’s words about her work.

This is my original watercolour painting on high quality watercolour paper. I love landscapes, still life, nature and wildlife, lights and shadows, colourful sights.

These things inspired me and appeared in many of my artworks. Brilliant colours and details.

About the Artist

I have always loved to create art. When I was in fifth grade, my art teacher called me the “Queen of Colours”. That encouraged me to continue working on my dream to become an artist. After graduating from high school, I specialised in art and textile design and majored at Art in college.

My field of specialty is watercolour because I love the fluidity it enables me to capture. I like the clean, strong and distinct colours.

I consider interpreting the beauty of the natural and the man-made world my mission in life because I hope to bring joy to people. My preference is impressionism and realism style.

I hope I will create art forever – It is my life, my work, my hobby.

Questions to the Artist

Firstly, your artwork is stunning. How do you manage to create such vibrancy in your artworks?

Thank you very much for the opportunity to introduce myself. I think one of the most difficult painting techniques is watercolour. A thorough knowledge of the medium and the handling of the brush greatly contribute to the fact that the painting remains vibrant, dynamic and alive. A lot of learning and practice is behind me. I humbly worship art.

Do you produce your artworks from photographs, life, or both?

Variable. When I create a detailed painting, the technical challenge is usually the main motivation for me. In such cases, I usually work from a photo in order to show the small details on the paper. However, if the brushwork is more vigorous, dynamic and random, then the inner thoughts and intuitions move the brush in my hand. In such cases, my own thoughts and the world of my imagination appear on paper. A great example of this are the street scenes with umbrellas and people walking, created by my imagination. I love the rain, the umbrella theme is one of my favourites.

I can see watercolour is your favourite medium – but do you also create works in other mediums?

Yes, watercolour is my favourite. But I often work with acrylic and oil on canvas.

What or who inspires you? Any particular favourite artist?

I like the play of light and shadow. Most often, this is what inspires me. And sometimes the solution of a single detail, such as a lace tablecloth or curtains. Sometimes a theme or event prompts me to create. For example,  “Collarwali/Mataram” was the supermom tiger. She lived in the Pench Tiger Reserve in the central state of Madhya Pradesh. My soul was touched by her death. I made several paintings of her.
