Underwater World by Liz Mcdonough

We live on an island and not only has this influenced our sea food oriented culinary habits or our interior design preferences towards nautical elements, but also our spare time activities and hobbies, from spending time with family by the seaside to creating various objects and artwork inspired by the aquatic world.

Both amateur and professional artists create objects and small worlds from drift wood, rocks and shells as well as depicting marine life with fish, the ocean and aquatic vegetation. This activity has slowly become a national obsession since we are surrounded by coastlines and wherever we live, we don’t have to travel far to get to the seaside.

There are a few specific elements that capture the aquatic world in a painting: green, blue and turquoise colours; aquatic life such as plants and fish; texture in order to recreate waves and splashes of water.

The aquatic world can be re-created in traditional paintings and seascapes as well as in abstract artworks and mixed media pieces. Such paintings are appealing to a wide audience and collectors and they can greatly complement your holiday home by the sea, your modern or traditional home as well as your existing art collection.
