Scarlett Flower by Caroline Ashwood
Scarlett Flower by Caroline Ashwood

If you are not familiar by now with Caroline Ashwood’s distinctive style, the ‘Artwork of the Week’, Scarlett Flower, will be the perfect introduction into the artist’s creative world.

Caroline’s work is highly textured, resulting from layering washes and glazes over textural backgrounds until the desired result is achieved. This technique gives depth, vibrancy and a tactile effect to her artworks. Then she finishes off with metallic accents that change under different light sources.

We can confidently say that her artworks have a personality of their own, always evolving and changing, allowing the viewers to discover new layers and features within.

“My work is visceral and spontaneous. When I paint, I rely entirely on my instincts. Using my hands to work the paint washes around the surface, I continually move the artwork back and forth to keep the colours flowing. Eventually I reach a point where I allow the paint to take the control so that I can revel in the prospect of the paint surprising me yet again”, says the artist.

Created predominately in warm colours – gold, red and copper, highlighted with touches of pink – Scarlett Flower is an abstract artwork in a contemporary style and it is both aesthetically pleasing and technically accomplished. Do you agree?
