Piano Playing Hens by Casimira Mostyn
Piano Playing Hens by Casimira Mostyn

“I would describe myself as a quirky, naïve artist and love to use bright colours in my artwork and, although I do like to experiment and diversify, a colourful palette is what always attracts me”, says Casimira Mostyn, a well known artist in the Oxford area, where she lives. Her artwork has appeared in the local press as well as in the literary magazine Orbis Journal.

The quirkiness of her art is exactly what attracted us when looking at her gallery and choosing her painting Piano Playing Hens to be our ‘Artwork of the Week’.

Created in watercolour on paper, the painting is unusual, amusing and well executed. The eyes are drawn towards the hens while the piano’s black and white pattern creates a beautiful contrast with the brown and red of the hens.

There is no limit to an artist’s imagination; taking well known concepts and putting them in unexpected contexts, altering reality and giving it a different meaning or giving animals human characteristics are just a few ideas artists are experimenting with all the time to create something unique.

“I paint from the heart and could not imagine my life without art” – this is how Casimira Moystin completes her artist statement and this passion can be seen throughout all her artworks.
