In the contemporary art scene, it is not unusual for artists to find new ways of depicting images that show both aesthetic merits and artistry.

Besides talent, creativity is another characteristic that started to gain its place in the arts vocabulary today. This is exactly the case with the artwork Path Through Landscape by Stephen Conroy created using paper mosaic on canvas.

When we look at the painting, the first impression is that it is a stained glass artwork. But Stephen Conroy achieved this effect by cutting blocks of coloured paper in vibrant colours.

The attention to detail is amazing and the thinking process behind placing the pieces of paper next to each other to make sure the final image is a coherent one shows true artistry, great imagination and profound knowledge of the subject.

We can see where the light falls on the tree trunks, the nuances of green in the leaves, the sky and the land and all the small pieces of paper placed in different directions not only make up the contours of the objects and create the various plans within the image but they also give the artwork rhythm and dynamism.

“Throughout all of my work there exist the core elements of vibrant colour, bold shapes and strong composition”, says the artist and this is exactly what we see in Path Through Landscape.
