Track To Bentley Lane, painting by Mike Barber

Going for walks in the countryside inspired Mike Barber to paint Track to Bentley Lane, a lovely painting that at first glance is purely landscape, but upon further inspection, we see so much more.

Where did you get the inspiration for this piece?
A local scene in which I walk often.

What is your creative process when creating this piece?
I look for a scene or subject that has a lot going on with natural colours and light. I more often than not start the painting with the introduction of the sky, then I have the light source and direction. A limited palette is also an interesting use of paint which I will use, I find it can give a good sense of atmosphere. I will change mediums often and also mix mediums together on a painting, with a variety of subjects it keeps the process of painting challenging and interesting.

How long would this work have taken you?
I never track time when I am painting, but if I had to give a figure it would be about 8 hrs.
