Me & My Girls by Martin J Leighton

Me & My Girls, our ‘Artwork of the Week’, is a realistic painting depicting family life of a mother and her two daughters walking  towards the surf at the beach on a beautiful sunny day. Created in oil on canvas, the artwork emanates peacefulness and tranquillity. It is also the perfect marriage between seascape and figurative art in a traditional style.

“I paint a great variety of subjects and living on the coast gives me all the inspiration I could need as the environment around me is constantly changing.  However, my favourite subject is figurative and I am inspired by the beauty of women” says Martin J Leighton when talking about his inspiration.

Working as a professional artist for the past 12 years, Martin J Leighton exhibits a large range of realistic – though not photographic – and partial abstract contemporary paintings.  His artworks are evocative and thought provoking images, where the artist is a narrator and the figures are the characters of a beautiful story.

“I like my paintings to tell a story if possible so that the viewer enquires what is happening, who the figure is and if it’s a rear view, what they look like”, the artist explains.
