When we look at the painting titled Just Perfect by the artist of the month Karen Smith, we are inundated by calmness, serenity and tranquillity.

Created in oil on canvas in shades of turquoise and teal, the painting is an abstract seascape featuring two lovers in the distance. It is the perfect image, background and environment for love, hence the title.

“Mostly I use one colour for a piece to invoke a feeling of simplicity, peace and calm. My inspiration is drawn from life’s emotions”, says the artist.

The light is captured at the horizon where the sky meets the water, creating a beautiful reflection in the water and in the sand. The serenity is only interrupted by the wave that separates the land from the sea.  The shadow of the couple gives depth to the artwork and a subtle three dimensional feel.

There are many ways of painting seascapes, from traditional and impressionistic to abstract and contemporary. The latter gained more and more territory with the artists for the freedom of expressing sentiments, the feel of a place and the essence of human emotions.

Just Perfect is a realm of calmness that the viewer is invited to dive in and take in through all the senses.
