By the Seafront

Where did I get the inspiration for this piece

This mixed media painting/drawing is inspired by a holiday in Cornwall a few years ago in mid winter.  Walking along the seafront one evening I saw a roll of quirky houses built with timber and stone.  I had a conversation with a house owner which confirmed my belief that they do have the most beautiful views over the sea, however, they also suffered the most terrible flooding in the last few years.

What is my creative process when creating this piece

I love working with various artists’ materials, drawing with pencil, painting with acrylic and crayons, I also like using bits and pieces from magazines to mould into particular shapes and paste onto the surface of the artwork, the idea is to create a textured surface either on paper or canvas. I love drawing, painting and sculpting, working as a mixed media artist gives me the opportunity to create and explore my chosen subjects.

How long would this work have taken me

I work in solitaire in my studio, once when I had all the ideas and compositions in my mind I then made up a few  quick sketches and usually worked straight onto the artwork surface. Depending on the size and the subject of the artwork it can take a few hours or many days or weeks to produce.
