While we appreciate artworks that reflect reality and depict what we see,  we also like abstract art that we can interpret as we want. Artworks that put a smile on our face and make us happy are equally appealing. Butterfly Kiss by Sharon Deegan beautifully illustrates the latter through the combination of colours, subject and technique.

The vivid pink, purple, blue and metallic colours exude happiness and the butterfly makes us think of summer, warmth and freedom.  As for the technique, the 3D texture gives the artwork a tactile appearance.

Inspired by the constant change in nature, it is no surprise why Sharon Deegan chose a butterfly as her subject, symbolising metamorphosis, the transformation it goes through to achieve adulthood with its specific characteristics, including the beautiful colours we admire.

“My inspiration comes from many things but mostly from the natural world, the fury of the sea, the calm reflections of water, the delicacy of a summer bloom and the beauty of the underwater world. I love textures and surface interest and tactile, textile inspired artwork. Recurring themes in much of my work are flowing images, I like the idea of movement and that nothing stands still and is always changing”, says the artist.

Butterfly Kiss by Sharon Deegan is a happy painting, full of optimism, just what we need during the dark winter days.
