While we appreciate artworks that reflect reality and depict what we see, we also like abstract art that we can interpret as we want. Artworks that put a smile on our face and make us happy are equally appealing. Inspired by the constant change in nature, it is no surprise why Sharon Deegan chose a butterfly as her subject, symbolising metamorphosis, the transformation it goes through to achieve adulthood with its specific characteristics, including the beautiful colours we admire.
“My inspiration comes from many things but mostly from the natural world, the fury of the sea, the calm reflections of water, the delicacy of a summer bloom and the beauty of the underwater world. I love textures and surface interest and tactile, textile inspired artwork. Recurring themes in much of my work are flowing images, I like the idea of movement and that nothing stands still and is always changing”, says the artist.
