Richard Young

I am a self-taught, full time professional Artist born in Yorkshire in 1961. Based in Wokingham, Berkshire, UK where I have an art gallery, studio and framing workshop.

Though I have always had a flair for art, I graduated in engineering in 1983. With a passion to travel, I initially pursued a career as an engineering and design consultant. Holding various managerial roles with international design consulting companies.

Nevertheless, an artisan at heart, I returned to Commercial Art in 2003, initially as a semi-professional artist. My engineering and project management background has certainly helped me in the technical, administrative and organisational aspects of my art practice and there is also a noticeable influence in my composition and creativity.

Techniques

I have extensively developed my own personal style and technique throughout my career. My oil paintings are created entirely using a knife, often in a limited colour palette and mixing only on the canvas.

I define my artwork style as being contemporary realism. The technique I employ is a form of segmented alla prima, completed in three wet on wet layers during each painting session. The dark shadows and undertones, the mid tones and then the highlights and light glaze effects.

My figurative compositions are influenced and inspired by the realism and romanticism of my favourite post renaissance classical Masters and their timeless, romantic masterpieces. William Bouguereau in particular. They predominantly entail high contrast, dramatic lighting and shading. I simply adore light and am fascinated with its arguably undue influence on any subject.

With the subjects, I aim to capture a carefully composed aloof anonymity. A moody atmosphere with the drama, passion and emotion in a frozen realism – rather than characteristic individual representation of a traditional portrait.

Janice Rogers

I have been drawn to art from a very early age. Artists and designers such as Morris, Kandinsky and McIntosh have had a profound impact on my life.

My career choice was in design and I have worked for many years as a freelance surface pattern designer. Here I produced designs for many different high street names. As the industry changed and became more digital, I fell out of love with the process and searched for a new way of working.

For the last eight years I have been painting, as well as doing a little teaching work. It’s a wonderful, experimental and free way of working without limitation. I find it rewarding to create an emotional connection with the viewer. My aim is to draw the observer in and to see and feel different things within a painting each time they view.

I find art a very powerful form of expression. Having lots of feedback from clients all over the world, which express how the paintings have impacted their lives.

It truly is an often overwhelming gift to create and move people in such a powerful and emotive way.

Geraldine Segre

I’ve been painting, drawing and sketching for as long as I can remember. Originally from London but now live on the Lincolnshire coast, where I get endless inspiration for my art. I love big skies, empty beaches, crashing waves, moody clouds and vast landscapes.

My beach walks provide endless inspiration for my art. Whether that’s close to home, or away in our motorhome, enjoying the coast all around the UK. I particularly love visiting Yorkshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Northumberland and Devon.

Living near the beach allows me to get under the skin of the place. Seeing it in all weathers, through all seasons, and at different times of the day. People often tell me they feel like they’re actually there in my paintings. I think all that time I spend observing my surroundings helps me capture the essence of the places I paint.

Inspired by colours, shadows, the mood of the skies, these vast scenes that remind us how tiny we humans are. I’m fascinated by places where nature and man-made structures meet – sea defences, outfalls, piers and seaside resorts.

I paint mostly in chalk pastel because their vibrant colours are well suited to the drama of the English coast and countryside. I also love how physical chalk pastel is, how there’s nothing between me and the chalk pastel stick. It can get mucky but I’m at my happiest covered in chalk dust, but I also paint in watercolour, gouache, and oil pastel.

Sandra Breeze

Based in Buckinghamshire, I have art diplomas in drawing, painting and pet portraiture. As a successful pet portrait artist, I have taken on commissions for clients worldwide.  I love to create paintings of animals, but also like to experiment with colourful abstracts and landscapes.

Passionate about painting, my home studio is my ‘happy place’. It doesn’t really matter what is on the easel, I am most content when I’m covered in paint and listening to some good tunes. My taste in art is as eclectic as my taste in music!

The Pre Raphaelites, the Impressionists, Monet, Manet and Renoir are my art heroes. A myriad of other talent including everyone from Lowry to the anonymous Banksy.

Kristina Waddingham

Kristina Waddingham born in Epsom in 1994. My interest in painting started when I was a young child. My Nanny would teach me how she painted using watercolours. Letting me try out all of her techniques to create animal and landscape paintings alongside her.

I continued painting throughout school, developing a preference for acrylic and oil paints. Then progressed to study Fine Art for my A levels. The work of Lucian Freud influenced my work most heavily at this time.

I reached a crossroads in what direction to take at university. For me, painting was something that I knew and loved, but could do well enough without further education. I decided to study Zoology at the University of Nottingham.

Now a mother of three boys, I decided to dedicate my time to art and family.  I find animals to be the most fascinating and varied subjects to paint. The thought that there are still species out there that are undiscovered prompted me to start painting animals from around the world. I now work primarily in oil paint to create realistic wildlife portraits from my home by the sea in Kent.
