Venice Cityscape
Regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Venice is well known for its romantic allure, picturesque architecture, intricate canals and its unique means of transportation, the gondola, thus making it appealing not just for tourists but for artists too.
Cityscapes depicting places near or far are popular with artists and collectors alike. While artists enjoy the challenge of painting on location in different sceneries, for collectors, a cityscape can bring back memories of a nice place they visited, lived in or would like to travel to one day.
But when it comes to painting Venice in particular, the challenge for the artist is to capture those elements that the city is known for, in their own unique style.
Phillip Wilson in his mixed media painting titled “Venice” captures beautifully the Mediterranean feel in warm colours while Heatherbell Barlow shows the viewers how the city looks like in winter in her oil painting titled “Venice in Winter”.
Even though winter is associated with cold, we can still see the warmth of the place in the colours of the bricks in nuances of orange and yellow.
Denise Mitchell also captures the warmth of the place in her colourful pastel artwork titled “Venice Stroll” while Eraclis Artistidou captures the reflections of gondolas in the water.
Each artist depicted one or more facets of the city for our enjoyment and delight.
Cultural Venice
Painting Venice doesn’t always mean the city itself, but other cultural elements that it is known for. Richard Pearce shows the viewers a beautiful Venice Carnival Mask with a lot of details while Lesley Blackburn painted 12 Murano glasses inspired by her trip to the Italian city.
Whether you visited Venice or you are planning to, we hope that our selection of paintings will put a trip to Venice in your “to do” list for 2015.
